Rasche Ripken Berlin, Exhibition 'Vom Rand zur Mitte' 2012.
Short circuited to a deconstructive practise Spellmann acts upon a transformative, drawing centred strategy. He rebuilds paper boxes into sharpened simplistic models of standardised warehouse architecture. They are fantasy-able as production and business as much as storage and sales places. With a few turns of the hand they change into a incomprehensible picture of a colourful, uniformed word, in which just one thing is missing: the product.
Biotop - Utopia / Laboratory und Experiment field in Richardplatz, Berlin 2013
Water is one of the highest goods.
In Richardplatz is a temporary 2.30 cm high and approximately 90 cm wide sculptor from pieces of gardening equipment. Made of 12 grey cement forms acting as a cement plinth, a white three legged metal table frame and a black plastic container with a white tap. The city furniture resembles a water tank from the roof of a block of flats and stand around in its place as a prototype for low waterless times. The work is a hidden experimental design. How do the locals react, do they turn the tap on? Would the container get full? Looking somehow like art it creates an aura, that aura must first be overcome before it is possible to examine this practical collector.
